The Marine Protected Area of Tavolara is certainly one of the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean sea. A place where the seabed is extraordinarily rich, where our sea seems to have returned to the dawn of our civilization.
Triton signed a framework agreement in 2020 with the Management Consortium of Marine Protected Area Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo, in order to establish an active collaboration between the parties to carry out scientific research in marine ecosystems and regulate future environmental monitoring activities. A path of sharing objectives, to communicate and promote knowledge about the sea.
The Management Consortium of the Tavolara MPA has been managing the Marine Protected Area since 2004, and recognizes and shares various objectives with Triton, which can be achieved by strengthening existing projects, as well as in communicating the activities to the general public ongoing and future.
15,000 hectares of sea and about 40 kilometers of coastline, managed and protected with extreme competence; a management that did not stop only at the actions necessary for the protection of the sea. The researchers of the MPA of Tavolara have worked hard to fully understand all the dynamics that regulate the life and functioning of that stretch of sea, and are trying – until now successfully – to restore all the original and fundamental mechanisms for the life of the sea and its organisms. Even with the most unthinkable actions to an external observer, such as studying the populations of birds and other terrestrial creatures.
For example, they discovered how important it is to involve divers in monitoring the sea. Why? Because contrary to what is imagined, divers who frequent the sea also for passion can make an essential contribution to the knowledge of marine species and habitats and their state of health. Thus, together with Triton, the Tavolara Marine Protected Area documented a project to involve them, MPA ENGAGE and ADAPT.
While the documentary is in preparation, we leave you with the images produced by the project.
